The truckers have spoken.

Truck Path, an app that utilizes crowd-sourcing technology to view information about truck stops throughout the country, has released its own list of the top ten best truck stops.

In addition to showing parking space availability, the app gives truckers the ability to rate travel centers on a scale of 0-5, based on qualities like best food, fuel prices, cleanliness and other amenities. Currently, the app supports over 50,000 truck stops in both the United States and Canada.

Stops with things like showers, free Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities were most highly ranked by drivers. Overall, independently owned truck stops ranked far better than corporate-owned facilities.

Here are the top 6 truck stops of 2018, according to Truck Path, that each tied for a perfect 5.0 rating:

The new freight-matching app, DrayNow, officially raised nearly $5 million in it’s first round of funding.

Comcast Ventures and Osage Venture Partners backed the much anticipated freight booking and tracking app. With its new capital, the company hopes to expand its employee base in both Chicago and Atlanta.

“The shipping and logistics industry serves as an incredibly vital and growing part of our economy. However, the industry’s Intermodal sector sees little technology enabling the match-making and operational efficiency,” Sam Landman, managing director of Comcast Ventures, told DC Velocity.

“We invested in DrayNow because the team and the technology establishes a more efficient method for moving freight. Furthermore, as the first mover in the space, DrayNow addresses customers’ pain points.”

DrayNow quickly connects brokers and carriers based on prospective companies’ drop off locations. The app focuses on the beginning and end of each individual freight movement, allowing users to track their shipment’s location.

Furthermore, Founder and CEO Mike Albert said in a press release, “The industry experiences low visibility and transparency from pick up through delivery. However, we provide transparency and breadcrumbs all the way to delivery,” said Albert.

“When shippers give a carrier a load, they only hear about it when there’s bad news, like they have to push back delivery a day. But, now they see the load pickup, while it’s moving, and at its delivery. This gives them the tools to measure supply chain performance accurately. You can’t measure what you can’t see.”

Ever find yourself stuck on the road looking for a place to stay? CCJ Digital recently released an article describing a new application that people with CDL trucking jobs need to check out! Managing expenses on the road can be hard, but this new app can help solve that problem.

One board member, a large fleet, said its hotel expenses netted $2,000 per driver, per year, says Terrence McCrossan, senior vice president and general manager of Comdata. Next, Comdata surveyed 600 fleet customers to get more market intelligence.

The vast majority of fleets are not using programs of any kind to manage hotel expenses for events that include equipment breakdowns, maintenance and driver training meetings, he says. Results also showed two-thirds of the hotel stays are spontaneous. Neither fleet managers nor drivers had planned ahead for lodging on their routes.

Drivers use a mobile app to search for hotels by location. Upon check in, they present their fleet-issued Comdata card to make a reservation and pay. Comdata guarantees a discount of 20 percent or more off the lowest published rate.

Now drivers can book hotels whenever they want, pay with a Comdata fleet card, and have the cost automatically deducted from their payroll. Approximately 70 percent of the time the company pays for the rooms, but drivers have the option to use the convenience whenever they want.

Motor carriers now use this program to improve driver satisfaction.
